About Me
Rebecca Lewis is a Senior at Penn State University. She will be finishing up a degree in music education May of 2010. She is from Lemoyne, PA, a suburb of Harrisburg, PA. Becky was born in Maryland and lived there with her family until the age of nine which then she moved to Pennsylvania.
Becky started the violin when she was four years old and then switched to the viola when she was seven. She has studied with multiple viola teachers: Sally Grobani, Pamela DeWall, Dr. Robert Lau and currently with Dr. Timothy Deighton at Penn State.
Rebecca has played in the Cedar Cliff High School Orchestra and string quartet. She has also participated in the PMEA orchestra festivals, the Wednesday Club Youth Chamber Orchestra, and Shippensburg University-Community Orchestra. Becky has also performed a yearly recital since the age of four. Rebecca has performed at major performing halls such as the Kennedy Center, the Constitution Hall, Heinz Hall, the Kimmel Center, and Carnegie Hall. At Penn State, Rebecca had the opportunity of performing with the Philharmonic Orchestra, viola ensemble, and other chamber groups.
Rebecca is currently student teaching. She had the opportunity to teach general music at Newport Elementary School, Newport School District in PA, and she is now teaching a variety of music subjects at Central Dauphin High School including orchestra, choir, music theory, and much more.
Not only does Becky love to play the viola and teach, Rebecca also loves to sing. She was a member of the Cedar Cliff High School Chamber Singers and Octet. She has participated in the PMEA Choral Festivals. At PSU, she has sung with the top woman's choir, Oriana Singers, and with the top auditioned group, Concert Choir, for 2.5 years. Rebecca is currently studying voice with Claudia Cantania. Also, Rebecca loves to dance and has danced for fourteen years since the age of four. She has combined both her singing and dancing skills by performing in six musicals in her secondary school years, sometimes having major roles.
